Roof Cleaning & Moss Removal in Worcester

I remove moss, algae and lichen from roofs in Worcester and the surrounding villages, either by air scraping or by controlled low-pressure washing, depending on the age and condition of your tiles. Every roof clean includes a biocide treatment and a full gutter clear. Prices start at £8.50/m², with a £450 minimum.

Why moss on your roof is worth removing

Moss holds water against your tiles and can damage them over time. As it comes loose, it blocks gutters and downpipes and drops onto paths and patios.

How I clean your roof

I survey your roof first and choose the method to suit its age and condition.

1. Air scraping: no water, for older, fragile or unfelted roofs

I remove the moss with an air-powered scraping system: profiled metal scraper blades shaped to fit your tiles, and wire brushes, both driven by compressed air on long-reach poles. The air also blows the moss out of the gaps between tiles. No water is used to clean the roof, so nothing is forced up under your tiles, there’s no runoff, and far less mess around your house. I work from a scaffold tower, or occasionally a roof ladder, so I’m not walking on your tiles. A low-pressure biocide spray then kills the remaining spores, and the roof keeps improving for several months as the weather washes the dead growth away.

2. Controlled washing: for sound concrete and clay tiles

On robust concrete or clay tiles in good condition with intact felt underneath, I use low-pressure, high-flow washing, often with steam, for an immediate result, followed by a biocide treatment. I always do this from a scaffold tower.

• A free survey of your tiles, felt, ridge and hip pointing, lead flashing and valleys. If I spot a problem, I’ll tell you, and if your roof doesn’t need cleaning yet, I’ll tell you that too.

• A scaffold tower, so I walk on your roof as little as possible.

• HSE-approved biocide, safe for children and pets once dry.

• A full gutter clear with my high-reach vacuum when the roof is done. 

• A tidy-up of any mess the clean makes.

• A 2-year moss-free warranty when the roof is treated with biocide.

Prices include the scaffold tower and the gutter clear. I'm not VAT registered, so there's no VAT to add.

How big is my roof?

As a rough guide, the ground footprint is about 55 m² for a mid-terrace, 70 m² for a three-bed semi, and 100 m² or more for a four-bed detached house or bungalow. The pitch of the roof adds 20–50% to that, so a typical two-storey three-bed semi works out at roughly £850 to £1,050 to clean.

Keeping your roof clean

A biocide treatment every two to three years helps stop moss and algae coming back. It costs £2/m², with a £250 minimum, and you pay per visit with no contract.
